Scam Alert
We have been made aware of a new cell phone scam that is targeting people with debit cards.
Some members have received automated cell phone messages stating that "your Debit Card has been DEACTIVATED or COMPROMISED" or something similar. The members are instructed to respond to the alert in order to reactivate their cards. This is a scam.
If you receive this automated phone message, please ignore it. Please be assured that your card has not been deactivated or compromised.
Greater Milwaukee Credit Union will never ask a member to provide, verify or update their personal information, account number, card number and PIN, User ID and Password, or other financial information via email, live or automated phone call, or text message. If you are contacted by any of these methods requesting personally identifiable or account information, do not respond.
Scammers are targeting anyone and everyone who is willing to divulge personal information to them. The crooks are very good and very convincing, but do not fall for it. At no time will GMCU ask you to verify information that we already have. If anyone purporting to be a debit or credit card provider calls and requests your card number, hang up and call the phone number on the back of the card and report the attempt.
Note: Remember, we may call you to verify card activity that appears suspicious or to provide you with information about products and services we offer.
If you have any other questions, please contact our Member Service Department at 414-774-7420.
